Overview
from Nagarkot and its surrounding hills you can see several mountain ranges including Annapurna, Ganesh Himal, Langtang and Everest. Sunrise and sunset from Nagarkot.
Nagarkot is some 32km east of Kathmandu and can be visited for a day but in order to really appreciate the beauty of the area and mountain views, it is a good idea to hike around the area and, if possible, stay overnight.
To start the hike, visitors can drive to Sakhu, an ancient Newari town on the northeast corner of the Kathmandu Valley. Then start hiking to Nagarkot and it takes approximately four hours through pine forests. On reaching Nagarkot, visitors can look around the village and watch the sun set spectacularly over the Himalayas. Then take a (pre-booked) taxi back to Kathmandu or stay overnight and hike down or take a local bus down the next day. And don’t forget the even more spectacular sunrise!
